Sort­ti sta­tion recep­tion fees for house­hold cus­to­mers

eSortti.fi – Make your visit to a Sortti Station faster

  1. Declare the waste you are delivering and, if necessary, pay for it in advance. You can also use the service just to estimate the price of your waste load.
  2. Enter your car’s registration number in the web service; your car will then be recognised at the gate of the Sortti Station and it will open automatically. Alternatively, the gate can be opened using the QR code you received.
  3. Unload your waste in the correct collection points at the station. If necessary, ask our staff for advice.

Waste free of charge and liable to a charge

For information on waste liable to a charge or free of charge, see the table below. Sorting instructions are provided in connection with the types of waste. 

  • We charge for individual items, such as an armchair, spring mattress or sofa, according to volume.
  • You can pay at eSortti.fi, with the most common payment cards or by invoice, either as self-service or at the service desk. We do not accept cash.
  • How much will your waste load cost? You can enter the details of the waste you are taking to a Sortti Station in our eSortti.fi web service. You will be informed about the costs and you can also pay the invoice in advance.

Please note that Sortti Stations cannot be accessed with vehicles or combination vehicles that that exceed 10 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width, or a total weight of 3,500 kg. Such loads should be transported to the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre. 

It is not permitted to enter the recycling stations with vehicles or vehicle combinations

The Sort­ti Sta­tions in the Hel­sin­ki Met­ro­po­li­tan Area and Kirk­ko­num­mi are was­te recycling sta­tions.

When you bring your old furniture, garden and renovation waste as well as scrap metal to our Sortti Stations, they will be processed and recycled into materials or energy. Our goal is to have an even larger amount of waste materials recycled into raw materials for new products. Materials with no existing recycling solutions can be used to generate heat and electricity.

Renting a Sortti trailer for waste transport

Household customers can rent a trailer from a Sortti Station for transporting waste to the station. One rental period is three hours. The trailer cannot be used for other purposes than transporting waste to a Sortti Station. The trailer cannot be rented for the transport of soil sold at the Sortti Stations. Waste reception is subject to a fee according to our price list.

If the rental time exceeds three hours or the trailer is not used for bringing waste to the Sortti Station, a €40 daily fee is charged from the beginning of the rental time.

Waste free of charge

We do not charge a separate fee for properly sorted:

  • Cardboard and paperboard
  • Glass packaging (bottles and jars)
  • Metal
  • Paper
  • Electrical and electronic devices.
  • We do not charge a fee for hazardous waste generated in households. However, please note that construction and demolition waste containing hazardous waste as well as asbestos and pressure-treated wood are subject to a charge. HSY charges cleaning and processing costs on a case-by-case basis for asbestos waste left at Sortti Stations in violation of the instructions (€0–5,000).

For safety reasons, asbestos is only received at the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre: small batches at the Ämmässuo Sortti Station and truck loads as well as large batches at the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre. HSY charges cleaning and processing costs for asbestos waste that has been sorted in violation of the instructions.


The cost consists of cleaning and packaging, transport and a waste treatment fee. In addition, the cost is affected by the quantity and quality of the waste. If necessary, the work is carried out by an asbestos contractor.
Insulation wool

Sorting instructions at the Sortti Station:

  • Sort rock and glass wool in the insulation wool press.
  • Sort blown wool onto the combustible mixed waste container.

  • There is a separate collection container for gypsum.
  • Gypsum waste must be clean and dry.
  • Do not deliver powdered gypsum in sacks.
  • The gypsum boards must be fee of any slabs, wooden constructions or metal.

There is a separate collection container for plastic. NB! Styrofoam and PVC are not accepted for plastic collection; they must be sorted as mixed waste. Plastic packaging is collected separately free of charge at Rinki ecopoints. Plastic packaging waste can also be placed in the plastic collection at the Sortti Station, but the fee is the same as for other plastic.

Garden waste and brushwood

sSortti Stations have separate collection points for brushwood and tree trunks, raking waste as well as apples. Separate them from each other in the load. Other fruits and leftover berries can also be placed in the collection containers for apples. Please note that if the size of the garden waste load exceeds 5 m3, the price is charged for each starting five cubic meters.

Garden waste containing invasive species must be packed before delivery. It is sorted as mixed waste.

Separate from other garden waste. Remove any plastic bags before placing in the collection container at the Sortti Station. Accepted only in the autumn.

Please note that we charge the treatment costs for incorrectly sorted waste in accordance with the waste type in question, as well as the costs of cleaning, office and expert work caused by the incorrect sorting according to the price list.
