Waste management service fees 2025

Waste loads transported by lorries or other large vehicle are accepted at the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre in Espoo. The treatment fee is determined by

• the weight of waste load;
• the type of waste; and
• the quality of the type of waste.

The load is assessed at the reception. If a load includes several different types of waste, the fee is determined based on the most expensive type of waste. A weighing fee is also charged for the load.

The customer (the producer and the holder of the waste) must be aware of the quality, characteristics and origin of the waste in their possession as well as its suitability for landfill. This information is provided upon delivery. An electronic Waste Transportation Document is required for certain types of waste in accordance with the current legislation.

We will charge the customer for any additional costs incurred from waste being directed to incorrect treatment as a result of missing or inadequately filled documentation, such as a missing Waste Transportation Document or incorrect waste type declaration.

Fees per waste type

Final-disposal waste must be suitable for an ordinary waste landfill (a landfillability statement, when necessary).

Asbestos

Hazardous waste

Includes the EWC codes:

• 170601 Insulation materials containing asbestos. Final-disposal waste.
• 170605 Waste containing asbestos. Final-disposal waste.

Asphalt

EWC code: 17 03 02

Demolition waste from roads and similar asphalt structures.

• Must not be contaminated by petroleum products (e.g. from fuel distribution stations, storage areas for petroleum products, etc.).
• Must not contain coal tar coating or other hazardous waste.

Biowaste

EWC code: 20 01 08

Solid food waste, which is fully biodegradable and technically suitable for the treatment process. Including packaged, no glass or metal containers. 
By-product class 3. From commerce and industry, industrial kitchens, restaurants, etc.

Animal waste

EWC code: 02 01 99

Animal carcasses and pieces. Horse, deer, elk.

Animal faeces and bedding

Includes the EWC codes:

• 02 01 99
• 18 02 03

Animal bedding as well as manure from horse stables that contains bedding.

Sandblasting sand

EWC code: 17 09 04

Used sandblasting sand. Final-disposal waste. Landfillability required.

Street cleaning waste

Soil material

Soil material, reusable

Excavated soil, which can be utilised as it is on a landfill or in construction. Including blasted rock. Concentrations of contaminants below the lower guide values of the PIMA regulation.

Soil material, must be pre-processed

Soil and rock material (including liquid soil and rock material delivered by tank truck) that contains a maximum of 10% of other waste by volume. The price is determined based on the quality, volume and liquidity of the waste components and/or invasive species. Insulation wool

Glass and rock wool, final-disposal waste.

Gypsum waste

Clean and dry gypsum boards. No refuse sacks, slabs, wooden constructions or metal.

Glass, from construction

EWC code: 17 02 02

Glass waste resulting from construction and demolition. Final-disposal waste.

Construction rock material

EWC code: 17 01 07

Reusable rock material, such as plastering and chiselling waste.

Bricks

EWC code: 17 03 02

Construction bricks resulting from the demolition of buildings.

Mixed waste

EWC code: 20 03 01

Waste generated from habitation as well as related commercial, industrial and other institutions. Miscellaneous municipal waste. Waste for energy recovery or for final disposal.

Boats

Boats may be equipped with an engine provided that any oil has been drained from it. Boats must have any bilge, oil and fuel drained and accumulators removed. Weighing is subject to a weighing fee in accordance with the price list. Please note that the person bringing the waste must be able to remove the boat from the transport equipment on their own.

Waste from sewer cleaning

Waste generated by broken or leaking sewers (e.g. solid soil contaminated by sewer waste).

Invasive species

• 20 02 01
• 17 05 04A

Invasive species populations, loads that contain reproductive plant parts and soil.

Invasive species mixed with soil that contains a maximum of 10% of other waste by volume. The price is determined based on the quality, volume and liquidity of the waste components and/or invasive species. Concentrations of contaminants below the lower guide values of the PIMA regulation.

Green waste

Brushwood and garden waste

EWC code: 20 02 01

• Leaves and garden waste: Leaves, grass, plant tops, chipped or unchipped brushwood and other biodegradable garden waste. Including untreated sawdust.
• Leaves and brushwood, must be pre-processed: A mixed load of leaves and brushwood.
• Brushwood, contain soil, must be pre-processed: A load of brushwood that contains soil.
• Brushwood, must be pre-processed: Branches and trunks of trees.

Stumps

Includes the EWC codes:

• 20 02 01: Reusable stump waste, origin green areas
• 17 02 01: Reusable stump waste, origin construction

Other fees

Weighing

• Weighing fee for loads that are classified as waste
• Transportation equipment weighing service and weighing of loads that are not considered waste

Additional fees related to unloading waste

Extra work, such as

• load unloaded by HSY, e.g. scraping of a frozen truck load;
• waste spilled from the load onto the passageways, cleaning a littered passageway;
• uncovered flatbed load, delivery of an uncovered cargo that according to the legislation should be transported with a cover;
• emptying a load in the wrong place, transferring a load that has been emptied in the wrong place; or
• other additional machine work.

• Clarification and correction of incomplete, incorrect and/or conflicting information on the Waste Transportation Document
